
Eco Green Club
- Eco Green Club is an association of Nature lover students and an active system providing the expertise and information of conservation of Environment.
Aim
- The main aim of the club is to involve student community to be aware of their own campus as it is bestowed with a wide variety of species and to create awareness to the locals in protecting and preserving their environment especially by explaining them about the importance of the Hills, which are abundant in sholas including rare, endemic and endangered species of flora and fauna.
Objectives
- To motivate the students to keep their surrounding green and clean by undertaking plantation of trees.
- To motivate students to imbibe habits and lifestyle for minimum waste generation, separation of waste and disposing the waste to the nearest storage point.
- To educate students to create awareness amongst public and sanitary workers, so as to stop the indiscriminate burning of waste, which causes respiratory diseases.
- To organise programmes such as quiz, essay writing, painting, slogan writing, elocution competitions, rallies, etc., regarding various environmental issues and to educate children about reuse of waste material and preparation of products out of waste (Wealth Out of Waste).
- To celebrate festivals like World Environment day, Forest Day, Vanamahotsav, Ozone Day, etc.,
- To arrange visits to view the environment like Zoo, Botanical Garden, Nursery, Sanctuaries, Reserve forest, Pollution affected areas, etc.
- Beautifying selected road side area with plants including ornamentals and put campaign boards to create awareness on environment.
- Action based activities like tree plantation, maintaining a herbal garden, cleanliness drives both inside and outside the campus.
- Organising rallies, marches, street plays at public places in creating awareness about the important days of environment.
- Organising seminars, debates, lectures and other invited talk on environmental issues.
- Sensitize the students to minimize the use of plastics and other non biodegradable materials which pose environmental hazards.
- Creating awareness on the importance of saving water and in installation of Rain water Harvesting tanks.
- Avoid over exploitation of natural resources.
- Placing placards in classroom regarding environment.
- Visiting local forest areas, sanctuaries, botanical garden, parks and industrial areas including the waste management sites.
- Documentation of flora and fauna of the campus.
- Other activities include conducting various competitions viz., Painting, Pencil sketching, Rangoli, Paste the picture, Wealth out of waste, debate on environmental days, essay writing, card making etc., related to environmental issues.
- Seed bank collection.
- Bird watching and documentation.
- Making cloth bags out of old cloths.
